Ahmednasir asks court to exclude Senator Orengo from Weston Hotel land dispute case

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi wants his Senior Counsel counterpart and Siaya Senator, James Orengo stopped from representing the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in a land dispute concerning Weston Hotel.

From his pleadings, Ahmednasir argued that the Senator’s name missed from list of panel of advocates appointed by KCAA to act on their behalf. Moreover, he stated that Mr. Orengo in his capacity as the leader of Minority in the senate serves as a state officer and therefore should be prohibited from undertaking any other gainful employment.

In the urgent application filed before the Environmental and Land Court, Ahmednasir also argues that Senator Orengo is ineligible to represent KCAA as he had competing interests in the case because he served as a Lands Minister during retired President Mwai Kibaki’s tenure. Furthermore, Ahmednasir told the court that the Senator had not received instructions to act on behalf of KCAA.

Off the record, Ahmednasir told the court that Orengo was in the case for political mischief intended to muddle the issues in contest for a temporal political nuisance, if not to gain political capital for his principal in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party with a view to scandalize and vex the Weston Hotel.
