Court directs Dennis Itumbi to pay Ksh 20,000 per month as child support

Dennis Itumbi was ordered by the court on Friday November 29, 2019 to pay monthly upkeep and maintenance of a child whom DNA tests confirmed as his.

Itumbi had denied siring the child and consequently requested for DNA results. However, the results confirmed Itumbi was the father of the baby girl.

On Friday 29 November 29, the mother of the child moved to court claiming that Itumbi had absconded his parental duty . Through her lawyer Enriah Dulo the woman had asserted that she was unable to raise the child on her own as she an orphan and prior to delivery she had been forced by her employer to quit her job. She also prayed that Itumbi to provide a copy of his National Identity Card so that his name could be included in the child’s birth certificate.

“We want a copy of his national identity card so that his name can be included in the minor’s certificate of birth, and we will also be asking him to set up a trust for the minor,” said the woman’s lawyer.

In the ruling rendered, Itumbi was ordered to pay Ksh 20,000 a month in child support pending the determination of the matter filed at Milimani Law court family division whereby the child’s mother wanted Ksh. 50,000 as monthly child upkeep.

The court also urged the parties to reach an out of court settlement on the matter as with regards to the child upkeep.  Intricacies of the settlement is that the lady is demanding Ksh. 50,000 as monthly maintenance, medical insurance and school fees when the minor starts school.

The matter is scheduled for a mention on December 18, 2019 where by the court will confirm compliance.
