Dandora youth involved in highway robbery slapped with Ksh 1 million bond

A young man, Daniel Omusai Amiyunzu, was on Wednesday December 11, 2019 charged with various counts inter alia robbery with violence contrary to Section 295 as read with section 296 of the Penal code.

On Tuesday December 10, 2019 at around 6.00 p.m the 20 year-old is said to have rob Brian Khamuka of his phone worth Ksh 13,000 and Ksh 5,500 after carjacking a Public Service Vehicle plying the Dandora route. 

In the events that occurred inside the PSV matatu belonging to Forward Travelers Sacco, it is said that the suspect and two accomplices boarded the matatu at a stage masquerading as passengers. Once inside the PSV, the suspects ensued fracas by turning against the crew and passengers. The accused is said to have drawn a pistol and demanded cash from the driver. 

It is then that the complainant(conductor) tried to wrestle the accused in an attempt to rescue his passengers. However, the accomplices who were armed with knives joined in and bundled the conductor out of the matatu, robbing him of his phone and cash.

One of the accomplices was shot dead after police officers on patrol emerged to rescue the victims. Nonetheless, one accomplice escaped but the police with the help of the public managed to trace and arrest the accused.

A knife was recovered from the suspects. Police also recovered the infinix mobile phone that had been taken away from the complainant and a homemade gun from the suspect who was gunned down.

The accused has also been charged with handling stolen property contrary to Section 322 of the Penal Code. It was revealed to the court that he dishonestly retained Khamuka’s phone after robbery.

The accused refuted the charges.

Makadara Law Courts Senior Principal Magstrate, Angelo Kithinji freed the accused on a bond of Ksh 1 million with a surety of similar amount.

The case is scheduled for hearing on April 15, 2020 with a mention scheduled for December 30, 2019
