A former boss of an Insurance firm was arraigned in court on Wednesday March 11, 2020. Appearing before Principal Magistrate Irene Ruguru at the Ngong Law courts, George Ngure Kariuki was charged with involvement in multi million land fraud.
Mr Ngure Kariuki is accused of colluding with other suspects still at large to defraud one David Mahugu Thundu. It is said that the victim of the fraud lost about 15 acres piece of land. The former United Insurance boss is said to have lied to the land registry officer at Kajiado county therefore altering land ownership documents belonging to David Mahugu.
Particulars of the charge sheet reveal that the accused colluded with the Kajiado County land registry and some Kajiado DCI officers therefore revoking this piece of land and illegally transferring a title deed on various dates between 2004 to 2019.
“On 31st March 2015 at Kajiado North lands office within Kajiado subcounty Ngure informed the land registrar Kajiado North, a person employed by the public service the land parcel Kajiado/Kipeto/1452 was fraudulently transferred to David Mahugu Thondu while he still has the original title deed and he has never offered it for sale information that was false,” reads part of the charge.
The case is just a highlighter of the massive land fraud cases in Kajiado county. The DCI reported that a public outcry in Kajiado led the to intervene and push for a “rare’ prosecution of a land fraud case.
The case will be mentioned on April 7,2020 with more suspects lined up in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations radar.
