Rogue police officer impersonating DCI Kinoti released on Ksh. 500,000 bail

DCI George Kinoti on Monday October 28, 2019 sent a rogue police officer on compulsory leave. The officer, Corporal Omondi Gangire, had been attached to the Ruiru DCI office. He had been using Kinoti’s name to extort money from the public.

On Tuesday, October 29, 2019 Corporal Gangire was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Johnstone Munguti at Kitui magistrates court. Corporal Gangire alongside a civilian were both charged with the offence of impersonation.

The two suspects denied the charges and were each released on a Ksh 500,000 cash bail.

“The officer and his civilian friend, have been collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public while posing as Kinoti’s agents'” confirmed the head of the Special Crime Prevention Unit, Pius Gitari.

The agency, at the time, directed Kenyans who had lost money in the scheme to report to DCI headquarters or any police station.
