Adil Arshed Khawaja, over 20 years of experience and in-depth knowledge in real estate, joint ventures and private equity, commercial litigation and arbitration, a man to watch.
Just recently, Twitter updated their terms of services and sent them to all users to go through and accept if they want to continue using the platform, 99% of these users, me included did not go through these terms but instead just accepted these terms, which led me to thinking about the repercussions and how ‘rich’ and/or ‘successful’ people deal with these things, lawyers!
So, in my journey to envision success I ventured into finding myself a lawyer, God knows I’ll need one soon when I’m swimming in money, *wink* and I came across the name, Adil Arshed Khawaja, very familiar name, one most renowned lawyers in the country who has dealt with complicated land issues, and regularly advises on eco-conveyancing for clients in the tourism sector and the Government of Kenya.
The 48-year-old has 23 years’ experience and in-depth knowledge in real estate, environmental and planning law, commercial litigation and arbitration.
I was interested. Turns out the lawyer recently advised and submitted a report to the Government of Kenya as a member of the Taskforce to inquire into Forest Resource Management and Logging Activities in Kenya, Wangari Maathai would be proud.
The report has been instrumental in having key officials in various agencies investigated for corruption charges. I was yet to figure out why his name was so familiar so I dug deeper.
I went back to his roots, in 1990, Adil enrolled for his LLB Hons which he attained in 1993. He was enrolled as a trainee at Hamiltons Harrison and Mathews till 1994, the same year he did his Diploma in Law (Bar finals) from Kenya School of Law.
In 1995, a week after he sat for his Bar finals, he was promoted to an ASSOCIATE at the Hamiltons Harrison and Mathews law firm. He has been at the position for a half a decade. Impressive.
In 2001, Adil Khawaja was announced as the Partner by the CEO of Hamiltons Harrison and Mathews law firm where he was a partner until 2013.
Between 2007-2010, the lawyer was the designated Law Society of Kenya Elections Scrutineer. During this period, Lawyer Adil was seconded by Law Society of Kenya to the Judiciary Committee responsible for the renovation of the new Commercial Courts at Milimani.
Adil also holds a Master’s Degree in Law from Kenya’s most notable Higher learning institution The University of Nairobi.
Adil Khawaja is the Managing Partner in Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews. Dentons describe him as one of the most renowned lawyers in Kenya.
In 2018, Dentons, the world’s largest law firm announced a merger with Hamilton, Harrison & Mathews (HH&M), one of the largest firms in Kenya. The merger would go on to make HH&M — which dates back to 1902, making it one of the oldest firms in Africa, part of Dentons Africa.
Adil is a highly recognized individual in the Kenyan business elite due to his legal expertise. He also holds board positions in various companies. Currently, he is the chairman of KCB Bank Kenya Limited and sits on the board of Al Futtaim Automotive -CMC Motors Group and Kenya Power Company Limited.
And it hit me, Adil Khawaja was part of the Rhino ark board where the third-highest cash sponsorship was won by Car 44 (Adil Khawaja, Mario Brigetti, Abid Khawaja, Jameel Sheikh, Massimiliano Brigetti, Nelson Lekamisi) having raised Sh16,217,000.

For now, however, I continue traversing this hard and tough journey to success.
